See joint types for soldering and welding. For example, you should bear in mind that when brazing, the depth of the joint must be between 3-6 times the thinnest material in order to obtain optimal strength. The gap depends a little on which filler metal you use, but generally 0.15-0.3mm is recommended. When brazing steel with brass, there is a mixture between a weld joint and a solder joint, which is why the method is sometimes called weld brazing.
